Living Gods?

Ours is a country that runs high on emotions. The biggest example you would see when we shower movie actors or political leaders with so much love. I mean, people are even ready to change their own appearance to look like their favorite star.

Do we tend to over-idolize people in this country?
Hindus already have 33crore Gods but apparently that's not enough for us. So, we have added more in the list. Let's see some examples:
  • Narendra Modi- Like you, our PM also found it bizarre. But, it's true. Critics used to take jibes at the blind supporters by calling them 'bhakts' and 'bhakts' took it too literally.
  • Sonia Gandhi- Not only dynasties exist in India but this level sycophancy too.
  • Karunanidhi- His followers loved him so much that they built a temple devoted to him despite the well-known fact that he was an atheist!
  • Amitabh Bachchan- Umm, how could you forget about one of the biggest superstars we have?
  • Sachin Tendulkar- He is literally referred to as God by his fans. So, for a nation obsessed with Cricket and its God, building a temple is the next step that comes to their minds naturally!
  • Donald Trump- Do you think Indians have got no love left for foreigners? You're wrong. A man in Telangana has built a temple for him and worships him with full devotion.
  • Saving the last mention for the best in the business(YKWIM), who can forget Thalaiva Rajnikanth! When I first learned about this craze, it was Rajnikanth's temple in news. And if you see his larger-than-life image, it's totally believable too.
Is it okay?
So, many people wonder if all of this is justified! If you start treating someone like God, how will you be able to judge them based on their wrong-doings? Let alone judge or criticize, can you even see their flaws being a human? No one can ever be perfect. In a democracy, certainly, if you start glorifying the politicians too much, it will be detrimental for the progress of the nation.

For film celebrities too, this craze seems stupid. That's just another profession, but with those luxuries that no other profession can provide (excusing the politicians, of course). Isn't your love that turns into earning of crores for them enough already, that you also tend to revolve your whole existence around them?

Well, spread love. But, as they say, too much of anything is dangerous, even if it's love!!
